The validity and reliability of a new instrumented device for measuring ankle dorsiflexion range of motion
2015
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND: A restriction in ankle dorsiflexion range of motion (ROM) has been linked to several clinical manifestations such as metatarsalgia, heel pain, nerve entrapment, ankle joint equinus, patellar and ankle injuries. The purpose of the present study was to examine the validity and reliability of the Leg Motion system for measuring ankle dorsiflexion ROM. STUDY DESIGN: Descriptive repeated-measures study. METHODS: Twenty-six healthy male university students were recruited to test the reliability of the Leg Motion system, which is a portable tool used for assessment of ankle dorsiflexion during the weight-bearing lunge test. The participants were tested two times separated by tw…
Prevalence of Fibularis Tertius Muscle in a population in Spain : A Surface Anatomy Cross-sectional Study across Countries
2019
The fibularis tertius muscle (FTM) is a rare anatomic variation. The 5 prevalence of this exclusively human structure, which is found in the anterior 6 compartment of the leg, is often underestimated, and it is believed that foot and ankle 7 conditions are more difficult to manage in patients with an FTM. The aim of this study 8 was to assess the presence of the FTM palpation and determine whether its presence is 9 associated with an individual's sex, because the exact prevalence in males and females 10 is unclear. 11 Methods: This observational cross-sectional study included 481 people (23.49% men 12 and 76.51% women) with a mean age of 23.51 ± 5.369 years, who were recruited from 13 a Pod…
Vascular labeling of the head and neck vessels : technique, advantages and limitations
2017
Background Vascular staining techniques have been used to describe the vascular structures of several anatomic areas. However, few reports have described this procedure in the head and neck region. This paper describes a head and neck vascular labeling procedure, and describes some of the technical complications that may occur. Material and methods Fifteen specimen cadaver heads were prepared. After drying the vascular system, the internal carotid arteries were ligated and a solution with latex and a gelling agent was injected into the internal carotid arteries and external jugular veins. Two different colors were employed to differentiate arteries from veins. A total of 60ml latex was inje…
